Gaston School 'Gusher' Yearbooks
Digital copies of the Gaston 'Gusher' Annuals
History of the Gusher
The Gaston 'Gusher' was first published in 1936. It was sponsored by Mrs. Onie Wade and was an engraved yearbook.
Marie Tisdale was the first editor of the book. The Gusher was again published in 1937 by the senior class with Mrs. Wade as sponsor.
The year 1938 was skipped for some reason but in 1939 the Gaston Gusher began again and published a yearbook in 1939, 1940, 1941, and
1942. These four years the book was sponsored by Miss Nan Thmpson. After the war was over the Gaston Gusher was begun again, but this time the sponsor was Miss Ruth Kirkham. She was the sponsor for the next six years.
During the entire twenty years of Gaston School life there has been a total of 12 books published. Of the twelve, the 1950 yearbook won the Texas State Championship Award of the Texas High School Press Association at Denton, Texas. The 1940, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1951 yearbooks
were awarded an All-Texas which places the yearbooks among the top publications in the state
On the last year of the Gusher publication, it was said, "We hope that we have succeeded this year in publishing a yearbook that will portray for you Gaston Schools of the past and present."
Gusher publications from the 50's have been scanned and recorded onto a CD ROM that allows viewing the pages of the Gusher on your computer. DVD copies are available in a slide show format.
The Gaston Museum staff is scanning the other years of the Gusher and orders are being taken for these years.
Call the Gaston Museum or e-mail museum office
